For several years Family Honda used "lifetime free oil change" as an incentive to buy their cars and return to them for all service. They even put this in writing with the sales contract.
Now, they have stopped honoring this and are charging for the oil changes, citing economics and that they will have to "close their doors" if they continue. True, things are tough, but they tried to keep this decision low-key and left it to their service writers to deliver the bad news to each customer when they called or came in for service appointments.
I would imagine this has accounted for their F rating, because prior to this they were pretty good.
Obviously, this is breach of contract but they obviously know that few will pursue this (a small claims issue), UNLESS someone organized a class-action (probably the reason for low key, no announcement). Hopefully, economics is indeed the main reason for this and they are hurting to this degree (not unsympathetic to that these days), but it still does not justify the means.
They should think twice before offering such open-ended "incentives" in the future, and if they make a mistake, own up to it, don't try to sweep it under the carpet. Unprofessional, and has discouraged any future dealings, and too bad because I am about ready to purchase a new car.
